Asher Renk is a Philadelphia-based Graphic Designer whose main focus and interests lies in packaging design. At Parker Strategy Group, she continues to develop these skills through her designs made for print. She spent a year at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, before transferring to Temple University, where she earned her BFA in Graphic Design and further developed her skills.

Her year in New York greatly influenced her design skills and way of thinking, and the introduction to the local music scenes there continues to be a big influence on her colorful work. Whether she's creating new designs or immersed in music, Asher thrives at the intersection of creativity, community, and innovation. She continues to go to shows in Philadelphia and loves to discover new songs to listen to while she works.

BRAND IDENTITY

Breach is a board game about the thrill of escape while in a high-security lab facility. Each players picks a character with a different unique ability, while one player plays the security guard trying to prevent the others from escaping. With unique character designs, and a hiding mechanic where your pieces remain off the board until the security guard spots you, the game is very similar to a combination of other games, with a unique twist. Some of the games this board game is inspired by includes Nuns on the Run, Specter OPS, and other hidden movement board games. What makes Breach different from the games that inspired it is that both the security guards and experiments get interesting abilities, and can actively influence the board in dynamic ways, creating unpredictability and every round into a strategic showdown! This semester long project features cards, game pieces, a rule book, and illustrations. 
DESIGN CHOICES

    Regarding design choices, I opted for a logo that felt relevant to the “escape” aspect of the game, therefore I went with a logo that breaks apart. The cover also has a flashlight, highlighting the experiment characters “breaching” the lab, and the security guard who you can also play as shining the flashlight on them.

 The map is straightforward but detailed, giving the sense of a busy laboratory with a lot to explore. Each space players can go along is marked out clearly in the teal color used throughout. This color helps keep my palette consistent, and felt very much like a science color that was playful. Players start out on the green circles throughout the lab, meaning they all start in different spots and have to work their way to objectives till they can escape the lab... but don’t get caught by the security!

CARD DESIGNS

 Each player card represents a security labs documents, with a clipboard design and a “top secret” stamp. The players ability’s are listed clearly and in a clean visual order. The player designs are each taped on, giving the feel of a traditional labs documents. Each item card is similar, appearing like each item is a photo and it’s taped on. I decided to go for a simple illustration style with lines so the game felt playful and dynamic. Each character is a bold color, also emphasizing each characters unique approach. 






DIELINES & PRINT

 For this project,I designed all print components including game piecwes, cards, a rulebook, and a book. I created and worked with precise dielines, managed measurements, and produced test prints to ensure accuracy, quality, and correct colors. Throughout the process, I used correct print settings (CMYK), and thought about material and production requirements.

Visually, I thought that the boxes design should communicate the theme of escaping a lab and include some of the characters you can play as!
