Asher Renk is a Philadelphia-based Graphic Designer whose main focus and interests lies in packaging design. At Parker Strategy Group, she continues to develop these skills through her designs made for print. She spent a year at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, before transferring to Temple University, where she earned her BFA in Graphic Design and further developed her skills.

Her year in New York greatly influenced her design skills and way of thinking, and the introduction to the local music scenes there continues to be a big influence on her colorful work. Whether she's creating new designs or immersed in music, Asher thrives at the intersection of creativity, community, and innovation. She continues to go to shows in Philadelphia and loves to discover new songs to listen to while she works.

BRAND IDENTITY

OPALX is a fictional skincare line that draws inspiration from the shifting colors found in nature, such as opals. Inspired by biodegradable holographic paper, I set out to create a brand that values transparency—both in its ingredients and its environmental impact.

Sustainability and packaging aren’t mutually exclusive, a brand can have stunning packaging that’s eco-conscious. OPALX proves that environmentally conscious designs can be bold. OPALX’s brand reflects their brand values while also maintaining visually stunning Instagram-worthy packaging that aligns with contemporary interpretation of the natural aesthetics of Art Nouveau.






BRAND IDENTITY

The name OPALX comes from “Opal” a gemstone found in nature, with beautiful shifting colors. Many skincare products aren’t clear with consumers on their ingredients, eliminating trust in the consumer. OPALX emphasizes sustainability and is clear on their ingredients, drawing their ingredients from nature. 

Theres also a trend on minimalism in the cosmetics industry, which can make it difficult for products to stand out on the shelf. OPALX balances these qualities, with a colorful palette that isn’t harsh on the eys and makes you want to look closer.

The OPALX logo, featuring a sparkle within the “O,” is the most recognizable logomark used throughout branding. As long as it has the sparkle and follows the O shape, it remains recognizable. The logo evokes softness, simplicity, and high quality through a serif typeface.



PACKAGING DESIGN

When designing the  packaging,  emphasizing the “opal” shape and shifting colors was very important. Alongside that, holographic packaging and the sparkle motif and pattern seen in the logomark is used throughout, adding some playfulness to the packaging.

Finally, the logo is rotated in large text, creating visibility on shelves when seen from the side. This colorful packaging draws in consumers while remaining clean from the front of the box,  recognizable as high-quality skin care through clean typography and hierarchy.

WEB DESIGN

The website for OPALX presents a high-quality, engaging, and colorful website that emphasizes the brands opalescent colors and sustainability practices. This conceptual site was a way to show how typography and colors would work on a website. Shifting colors would be visible through the website, such as on buttons, highlighting user interactions and gaining the consumers attention.
